Journalism is built on trust. These are the standards we hold our community contributors to.
Reporting should never come at the expense of human safety or dignity. If a situation is dangerous, walk away. If a person is in crisis, prioritize their safety over getting "the shot."
Never stage photos or videos. Do not edit content in a way that misleads viewers. Reports must be factual and observed firsthand.
Stick to public spaces. Do not trespass on private property. Respect the privacy of people inside their homes or businesses.
We do not pay for close-ups of victims of accidents or crimes. Maintain a respectful distance. Focus on the situation, not the suffering.
If you are involved in the event you are reporting (e.g., it is your own business), you must disclose this immediately.
